DVD update
October 21, 2004

According to Zucchero's official website the dvd will go on sale throughout Europe and Italy today. On monday the dvd will be officially presented to the Italian press with a screening and a press conference (official fanclub members can be present) and a special website (through Zucchero's official site www.zucchero.it) should be online by then too. The dvd ZU & Co - live at the Royal Albert Hall was recorded on may 6th during the presentation of the ZU & Co duetalbum in London. Guests present that night included Eric Clapton, Brian May, Solomon Burke, Dolores O'Riordan, Tina Arena, Cheb Mami, Ronan Keating, Mana's Fher and Luciano Pavarotti. The entire concert (excluding the last encore) is on the dvd plus some extras including a behind the scenes on the concert, some information on the ZU & Co cd, a photogallery of the concert, a clip of Everybody's got to learn sometime performed at the 46664 concert with Roger Taylor, Brian May and Sharon Corr and some "hidden extras". The dvd will be released in France and Australia in november.

October 11, 2004

Some updates on the Albert Hall dvd (the recording of Zucchero's may 6 performance in the Royal Albert Hall in London with guests like Eric Clapton, Brian May, Dolores O Riordan, Cheb Mami and Solomon Burke), fnac.com has some of the extra's on the dvd listed: besides the concert there will also be a backstage documentary, a photo gallery, a making of the ZU & Co album (presumably the same as on the ZU & Co special edition), Dunne Mosse with Miles Davis (again, presumably the same as on ZU & Co special ed.)and Everybody's got to learn sometime live at the 46664 concert in South Africa with Queen's Brian May and Roger Taylor and Sharon Corr. Not so good news is that this website has the dvd listed for november not october, however most other online stores that already have the cd on sale still have the release date around october 18.

Ray Charles tribute: no Zucchero / Albert Hall dvd release date?
October 11, 2004

In the category "hmmm-news": even though he himself announced he'd appear at the Ray Charles tribute in the Staples Center in Los Angeles Zucchero wasn't there. Our very own Kathie Allen was and apparently I now owe her 75 dollar.... gulp. Thankfully artists like Elton John, B.B. King and Macy Gray WERE there so all was not lost but still...

Still no definite release date for the Albert Hall dvd; the French Amazon now has it listed for release on november 15 but Zu & co was released later in France too. A online store in Denmark however also has it listed for november. All the other online cd and dvd stores still have the release date somewhere this month (between october 15 and october 20). Needless to say the official Zucchero site isn't giving anything away either...

Peter Cook foundation canceled?/ Birthday
September 27, 2004

It looks like the fundraiser for the Peter Cook foundation in London where Zucchero was scheduled to perform is canceled. The official website of the foundation (www.petercook.org) appears to have taken all the info for the event of their website and most websites selling tickets for the event have stopped doing so. On the other hand it's still possible to order tickets from www.wayahead.com (search for "For pete's sake") so god knows what's going on right now. If the event will go on as scheduled it will take place in the Dominion Theatre in London on october 10.

And to the person complaining; YES our birthday wish to Zucchero (see below) was published on the 24th not on the 25th but I couldn't get online any later (I foresee a violin-woman thing happening here, see archives).

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ZUCCH!

Ray Charles tribute / Peter Cook foundation / Festivalbar / New album 2005!
September 21, 2004

It's official; Zucchero will indeed take part in the tribute concert for Ray Charles in L.A. on october 8. Other artists listed include Elton John, Norah Jones, Stevie Wonder, Mary J. Blige and B.B. King. The show will be taped and shown on CBS on a later date. Tickets are on sale as it is through this website.

According to an article on Tgcom.it Zucchero will take part in a charity show for the Peter Cook Foundation, which raises money to help children with learning dissabilities and is named after deceased comedian Peter Cook. The show will take place in the Dominian Theatre in London on october 10 and is called "For Pete's sake". You can buy tickets online through this website. The show will be taped for later broadcast and recorded by Radio 2 also for later broadcast.

A little more information on Zucchero's victory in this years Festivalbar for us non-Italians in this article from ANSA:

"Blues rocker Zucchero Fornaciari has won one of Italy's most important pop music accolades, being voted best act of the year by the travelling summer TV pop show Festivalbar. Zucchero won the contest in part thanks to his new album Zu & Co, a collection of duets, and in part because his latest single, il Grande Baboomba, was a massive summer hit in clubs. The Festivalbar prize is awarded every year on the basis of votes cast by the millions of viewers of the TV programme which features all the top domestic acts of the moment, plus many of the foreign stars making the charts. Zucchero, who has been churning out hits for 15 years in Italy, is well on his way to becoming one of only a few truly European rock stars, according to American magazine Newsweek. Though his biggest fan base remains at home, Zucchero's gravelly blues style has won him a following all round Europe, especially in France and Germany. The Reggio Emilia-born singer, whose real name is Adelmo Fornaciari, is in fact one of very few Italian acts who have tried and succeeded in promoting their music in several different language cultures. His latest album, "Zu&Co," is being released in six different editions - Italian, Spanish, French, Australian, Latin American and an 'international' version. It features songs performed with stars such as Eric Clapton, Mousse T, Sheryl Crow, Luciano Pavarotti, Sting, Vanessa Carlton, Dolores O'Riordan, Paul Young and Tom Jones. Thanks in part to the thumping success of the single 'Il grande Baboomba', it has already sold almost a million copies and looks set to stay in the charts for many weeks yet. The bible of British music fans, Q magazine, went so far as to say the Italian sang better than most of his duet partners. " (from the Zombieguide forum, thanks Alex!)

And finally some really good news: in the same Tgcom article Zucchero has announced that in january he will start working on a new studioalbum which he will then tour with for 2 years!

Zucchero wins Festivalbar / Ray Charles tribute???
September 19, 2004

Last night during the last show in this years Festivalbar series Zucchero has won the festival with ZU & Co and the single Il Grande Baboomba. This is the first time in the 41 year history of the festival and Zucchero's 10 years as a top seller in Italy he has won the festival. Congrats to Zucch!

And a small rumour; on october 8 a group of musicians (Elton John, Norah Jones, BB King) will come together in the Staples Center in LA to do a tribute to Ray Charles, rumour is Zucchero MIGHT be there but he's not listed anywhere so this could very well be complete bs.

Royal Albert Hall dvd: october 18! / Cheb Mami live
September 16, 2004

It looks like the dvd of Zucchero's performance in the Royal Albert Hall in London last may will be released october 18, both CDON.com and the Finnish Universal Music site have the release listed for that date. The concert was a one-off performance to present Zucchero's duetalbum ZU & Co. During the show Zucchero and band were joined on stage by guests as Eric Clapton, Brian May, Solomon Burke, Luciano Pavarotti, Ronan Keating and Tina Arena. During the day of the show recordings were also made for some behind the scenes stuff so some extras will most likely be included too. The title for the dvd is "Zu & Co Live at the Albert Hall".

everybody's got to learn sometime single

And in the same category; Cheb Mami (also a guest in the Hall) is releasing a new live cd/dvd recorded in Paris with a guest performance of Zucchero. The release date for the dvd and cd is september 21 and the title of the cd/dvd is Live au Grand Rex 2004. Both are available on Amazon.fr.

New French version ZU & Co
September 13, 2004

zucchero and co french

A new version of ZU & Co has been released in France with a different tracklist than the original French version; on the first versions there are two duets (Tina Arena on Ahum and Johnny Hallyday on Mama) that aren't on the normal cd (B.B. King and Brian May were kicked out), on this new version Cosi Celeste with Cheb Mami has been replaced with Indaco dagli occhi del cielo (the Italian version of Everybody's got to learn sometime) as a bonus track. The cd is available on the French Amazon.

TV dates / Charts update
September 9, 2004

Not a lot of Zucchero news in the past two weeks (which explains the lack of updates). Zucchero has been busy appearing on radiostations to promote Zu & Co and Indaco dagli occhi del cielo the new airplay single. In Munich, Germany, Zucchero has performed Everybody's got to learn sometime with an orchestra for the tv show Sunday Night Classics which will be shown on ZDF on september 19. In Switzerland Zucchero has performed "Senza una Donna", "Rossa mela della sera" and "Baila" at an MTV party but it's not clear if and when this will be shown on tv. The charts info for the past two weeks (last week, this week, three weeks ago): ZU & Co is still in the top 10 in Italy, Switzerland, Wallony and Slovenia and is losing a little ground in the Netherlands, France and Austria. In Germany the album seems to be moving out of the top 50 and in Flanders the album dissapeared out of the charts after hitting nr. 31 two weeks ago.

Belgium (Wallony): 6, 4 (7)
Slovenia: 6, 5 (4)
Italy: 6, 7 (5)
Switzerland: 8, 9 (5)
Netherlands: 16, 21 (14)
France: 16, 23 (12)
Austria: 15, 23 (11)
Germany: 35, 40 (27)
Everybody's got to learn sometime meanwhile is on nr. 43 of the French singles chart while Il grande baboomba has re-entered (for no apparent reason) the Swiss singles chart at nr. 98.
