On the road again: Montreal
October 27, 2003

Yesterday evening Zucchero performed in Montreal, Canada. Our good friend Shar went to the show and wrote the following review:

ZUCCHERO TRIUMPHS IN MONTREAL !

Incredible show, Zucchero !!!

I just got back from Zucchero’s fantastic concert in Montreal, which took place at “Club Soda” on Sunday, 26 October 2003. We were so fortunate to experience this high-energy performance in this very intimate club setting.

Zucchero urged the audience to its feet from the very first number, and more than half of the audience left their seats and surged forward literally to the stage. Where they remained, inches away from Zucchero & his band, for the entire concert !

There was such an incredible rapport between the performers & the enthusiastic audience. Zucchero engaged us, he enjoyed us, and he gave this performance 1000% effort. And the more Zucchero gave, the more affection & energy was returned by the audience.

On “il Volo” and “Solo una sana”, Zucchero turned the microphone toward the audience, to join in on the chorus ! And Zucchero generously shared the spotlight and acknowledged the important contributions of his band members, giving them ample opportunities to shine on solo riffs.

You’re the BEST, Sugar!!

From your #1 fan in the U.S.A. !

About the DVD
October 23, 2003

Wendy's review of the Shake w/ dvd:

Zucchero=Behind the Scenes Interview with Zucch about the making of Shake: set in a huge barn Starts out with music from Sento le Campagne with scenes with him singing, playing with a big black dog, in a studio, on the street, choosing sunglasses, taking some of those promo pics of him in that chair in the field.

The interview has English and Italian subtitles. Interspersed with parts of Ali d'oro, dindondio, scintille. Visit to a studio (I think it's in the same building, not sure, but think this is his personal studio, ?perhaps in Pontremoli?) he shows lots of memorabilia, vintage instruments, pictures, Beatles stuff. When asked if he thinks he made a "sexy" album, he says it's sexy to him because each song has a double meaning, the songs are autobiographical, true, and part of his life. When he need to feel strong emotions he reaches back to various things that have happened to him that have left scars inside (here it segues into the Tobia video.

When asked which songs on the album he likes the most, he says he likes all of them, but likes the "rougher" ballads the most, especially Ali d'oro and Scintille. Then follow what I think are probably just some of the videos that have been on Italian TV (except for the English ones probably):Baila (Italian Version), Sento le Campane, Ahum, I'm in Trouble, Baila (English version) and then The Making of Baila with Maná, scenes from the spanish video, shots of them in the studio recording.

All in all, I like it, but I'm not sure if the Italian audiance will be all that thrilled, since as I said, the majority of it is videos that they've probably already seen and are familiar with. For me, having only seen parts of some of the videos in Italy, I love it. And I like really like the interview, wish it were longer, lol.

Duet Album
October 23, 2003

Some news on the duet album from MTV Italia. Apparently the song Macy Gray and Zucchero recorded is a new version of "Come il sole all´improvviso", the Rispetto-song that Zucchero has also sung with Randy Crawford before (Live at the Kremlin, Crawford also wrote her own English version of the song for her Through the Eyes of Love album). The article also lists that songs recorded with Miles Davis, Ray Charles, Solomon Burke, Rufus Thomas, Al Green, Ronan Keating (it´s official), Elton John, Sting, Joe Cocker, Bono and Mark Knopfler will end up on the album. Older duets like "Blue" with Sheryl Crow, "Senza una Donna" with Paul Young, "Diamante" with Randy Crawford, "Hey Man" with B.B. King or Dee Dee Bridgewater and "Miserere" with Bocelli might also be included. According to MTV the album will be released early next year but it might just be a bit sooner (Christmas is coming up :) ).

Duet album
October 20, 2003

Ok, lot´s of news on the duet album! First of all: Zucchero has said in an interview with The Ottawa Citizen that he finished recording his new album (thanks Alex!). Il Giorno reports that one of the duets will feature r&b star Macy Gray. On the Italian Universal Music site the duet album is mentioned as one of the cd´s being released this november (thanks Stefano!). Besides Gray and Mousse T several other names have already come out as part of the album: The Cranberries´ Dolores O´Riordan will sing "Puro Amore", Brian May has recorded guitar solo´s for "Il mare" and "Solo una sana..." and Bono has recorded something too. Other rumoured names are Eric Clapton, Sting and Ronan Keating. ´Old´ duets may include work with Miles Davis, Ray Charles and Solomon Burke.

Tonight Zucchero will start the American leg of the Shake tour with a guest performance during Maná´s concert in Madison Square Gardens in New York. Starting the 16th Zucchero will perform 6 shows with his band throughout Canada after which he will reunite with Maná to perform another 4 shows with Maná in the US. After the American part Zucchero is planning to take the Shake tour to Australia and South-Africa though no particular dates are in yet.

If you are planning on visiting any of the concerts in the US and Canada, we´d love to hear about your experience! Feel free to email us with anything Zucch related (reviews, setlists, pictures, general remarks) on askboris@unpodizucchero.net!

The Albums: false alarm
October 13, 2003

Don´t panic, Universal is not gonna rob US fans from the few Zucchero albums they actually sell in the States: the albums were removed from an online ordering catalog but are now replaced in a different ´package´ (whatever that may mean) bottom line is that "Zucchero", "Overdose (d´amore) the ballads" and "The Best of.." will remain on sale in the US! Thanks to Alex for the news!

Shake w/ dvd: the dvd!
October 11, 2003

American music magazine Billboard reported the following on the re-release of Shake this month in the US by Koch Records, a Universal daughter. The tracklist of the cd as mentioned on Amazon (the UK version with Baila in the Maná version as a bonus track) appears to be correct. The dvd is to feature "interviews with the singer, whose given name is Adelmo Fornaciari. Also featured is behind-the-scenes footage of the making of "Shake" and all of the videos created for the album's original release". The article also mentions the upcomming Canadian tour and the guest appereances with Maná.

On the road again: the band
October 10, 2003

The following musicians will form the band for the North-American leg of the tour: on guitars Mario Schiliro, Polo Jones on bass, Adriano Molinari on drums, Lisa Hunt doing vocals and new (replacing Luciano Luisi, but god knows why) Matteo Saggese on keyboards. Zucchero's official site is going to follow the tour with some video material, pictures and updates.

Shake w/ dvd: tracklist cd
September 30, 2003

Amazon has the following tracklist for the limited edition of Shake with an additional dvd: Baila (sexy thing)/ Music in me / Porca L´oca/ I lay down (with JL Hooker) / I´m in trouble / Sparkling Meadows / Sento le Campane / Bell´amore mio / Rossa mela della sera / Shake / Lost scents / Baila Morena (with Maná). So we´re talking UK version with the additional Baila duet. No news in on the dvd of course...

Zucchero appears at Royal Hope Charity Gala, London
September 30, 2003

Zucchero

Zucchero sang at the Royal Hope Charity Gala in the Royal Albert Hall in London last friday where he also celebrated his birthday (see picture) the day before. Other musicians included Placido Domingo and Sarah Brightman. The show was hosted by Trudie Styler, Sting´s wife.

Almost all US CD´s out of print
September 30, 2003

Some weird news forwarded by Alex Kraus (from Zombieguide.com but we´re considering to hire him fulltime :D): appereantly Universal will stop ´making´ and selling "Zucchero", "Overdose (d´amore) the ballads" and "the Best of..." in the US. Shake is not ´out of print´. Now this can either mean that because of poor sales Universal will no longer sell those cd´s or a new version of the cd´s will be released (Universal and it´s daughters have been awfully busy with releasing so-called `deluxe editions´ with aditional, remastered, tracks but since all three albums are collections I´m not so sure). We´ll just have to see....

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
September 25, 2003

Zucchero celebrates his 48th birthday today, congratulations from everybody here at Un Po´ Di Zucchero!

US tour update
September 25, 2003

The following info was send to my by the official fanclub (bless them):

Hello Boris,

In the Madison Square Gardens Zucchero will be supporting Manà and singing 'Eres' and 'Baila' in duet. But, for the last two dates in the U.S. he'll be playing with his own band. As for the DVD we don't have that information at the moment but as soon as we do we'll be posting it on the site. thanks for the interest and keep an eye on the site for further updates.

BestRegards
The FanClub

Duet album: Bono involved
September 25, 2003

U2 frontman Bono will be one of the people working with Zucchero on the upcomming duetalbum. The following article was published on Hotpress.com:

Bono gets busy with Zucchero and announces the winnng design of the new U2 studios

Bono is set to guest on the new album by Italian superstar Zucchero. A collection of opera duets, it also features the very diverse talents of Eric Clapton, Sting, Dolores O'Riordan and Ronan Keating. It's not the first time that Bono and Zucchero have traded arias, with the pair performing 'Miserere' together at the 2003 Pavarotti & Friends concert in Modena, Italy.

(...)

Ofcourse "opera" makes no sense but these people only know "Miserere". Thanks to Alex Kraus (again :) ) of www.zombieguide.com.

Duet album: Mousse T.
September 22, 2003

German DJ Mousse T. is involved in the upcomming duet album and recently was in Italy to produce the vocals for ´his´ track called "Mama get real". According to his website the new cd will be released before the end of this year. Mousse T. has worked with an impresive amount of different artists including Tom Jones, Jovanotti, Randy Crawford, Quincy Jones and the Scorpions.

Shake with bonus dvd
September 19, 2003

We already mentioned it earlier but we now know it for sure: in october a new version of Shake with an additional bonus dvd will be released in the US. The release is mentioned on a bunch of online record stores (Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Towerrecords) and on the All Music Guide site. The new version will most likely be released october 21, although several of the sites mentioned earlier also mention october 7. The cd will be released by Koch records, a Universal daughter. No info is in yet on what will be on the dvd however. This new release most likely means that there will be no new cd untill, at the earliest, Christmas.

Duet album / Shake special edition with dvd(?)/ Toronto tourdate
September 01, 2003

On the official website of German DJ Mousse T (the man behind Tom Jones´ smash European hit with "Sexbomb" and who himself had a hit with the, very poetic, "Horny") the following news was released on August 20: "Mousse T. recently wrote a song for the upcoming album by Italian superstar Zucchero . The song is currently in production and the album will be released this year.". (Thanks to (Lo) Stefano!!).

Meanwhile, according to Towerrecords.com an item with the title "Shake (limited Ed w/ Bonus dvd)" will be released on october 7. Which strikes me as a bit weird if a duetalbum is planned to be released pretty soon too.

Plus a new tourdate (actually we just missed it.. eheh...) for the Canadian tour: Zucchero will perform in Toronto on October 25 in the Massey Hall. Tickets are 29.50, 39.50, 49.50, 59.50 or 69.50 (Canadian) dollars and ticketsales have started (for online tickets go to http://www.roythomson.com/) (thanks to Alex Kraus, www.zombieguide.com!).
