Once again Zucchero and his "Lunigiana Sweet Home
All Stars" club will battle for the Lunisiana Soul club, this year against the Numa Team 2002 with captain Eros Ramazzotti. The game is on the 28th of August (looks like SOMEONE has a busy end of the month ahead of him) and all the earnings will go to the Italian Multiple Sclerosis Association (one of Zucchero´s favorite and most sponsored good causes). For Info. and bookings: INFOLINE 0187 4601237
Sugar Day & Night update August 23, 2002
The Official Zucchero fanclub has released the news that Italian pop singer Alex Britti, Luisa Corna (who is a complete stranger to me but feel free to cheer behind your computer) and the Sorapis (a band of several "bigs" in Italian music including Zucchero, they made the cd "Waltzer D´Un Blues" in ´92 and will play a few blues classics together) and Zucchero himself will be present during this years Sugar Day & Night concert in Forte Dei Marmi. Before the concert there will be a photo exposition, several little blues bands performing and a fan meeting (for those who are members of the official fanclub anyway) with Zucchero. The entire event is free and will be held on August 30th (unless of course they once again change the date :-D)-
Shake it baby! August 21, 2002
Zucchero´s latest studio album Shake (released in Italy and Europe in September 2001, in the USA in October 2001 and earlier this year in Spain) has already sold over 2 000 000 copies. A great result for Zucchero considering the fact that it took his ´98 studio album Bluesugar almost a year to get to the 1 million border. In a short interview with an Italian tv station Zucchero said that "this was unique for him".
Things that happened.... August 21, 2002
.... while I was on my vacation:
Fanclub cd
The long (LOOOOONG :-D) awaited cd for fanclub members is there and this is the tracklist:
01 Cosi Celeste (recorded in Pontremoli: Luciano Luisi on piano, Mario Schiliro on guitar, James Thompson on vocals)
02 Everybody´s talking (recorded during a Dutch radio program (maybe they mean the Dutch tvshow AND radioshow 2 meter sessies but if so Lisa Hunt was also in the band and the song was already included on a 2 meter sessies compilation so in that case it´s not a newly released song!!!!) with Luciano Luisi on piano, Mario Schiliro on guitar, Derek Wilson on drums and James Thompson on bluesharp)
03 Come il sole all´Improvviso (recorded with a Gospel Choir)
04 Small Town Blues (already on the cd tickets for the bluesugar tour)
Ali D´Oro and Music in me
Ali D´Oro will be released as the new European single (after Ahum, Dindondio and Sento le Campane never got released outside of Italy), Music In Me will be released as the new single in Spain after the huge success of Baila earlier this year.
Sugar Day And Night August 8, 2002
This years Sugar Day And Night (the 10th version!) will take place around the 29th or the 30th of August. Marco Macchiarini is still working on finding a date on which Zucchero will be able to perform the setlist of this years concert (the entire "festival" will also include a fanmeeting, a foto exposition and a blues show) contains over 30 songs including some of the Shake album. The Sugar Night and Day will, as always, be held in Forte Dei Marmi and lasts and entire day (and night, duh :-D), the concert part will start around 21:00.
Updates August 7, 2002
Just some quick updates from my vacation address:
The new Zucchero fanzine has been shipped to the members of Zucchero's official fanclub (I believe most Italians already received theirs, I'm not sure about the non-Italians). A special unreleased cd will be send to the members of the official fanclub at the end of August/ beginning of September. To join the official fanclub visit www.zucchero.it.
Zucchero played two sold out concerts in the Live At Sunset series in the Swiss Landesmuseum. The setlist during the second night included songs like Sento le Campane, Music in me, Porca L' Oca, Ali D'oro, Rossa mela della sera, Senza una donna, Dunne Mosse, Cosi Celeste, Baila (sexy thing)twice (just like during the free Civitavecchia concert, where Zucchero played songs like Datemi una pompa, Con le mani and a Shake version of Pane e Sale) and a beautiful version of Va Pensiero with Zucchero sitting alone on stage with just his guitar. The sound was fantastic and the atmosphere was amazing. A full setlist of both the second Zurich concert and the Civitavecchia concert will be posted here as soon as possible (unless I forget :-DDDD).
Vacation July 24, 2002
Well I´m off on vacation so there won´t be (a lot of) updates for the next three weeks. See ya in August!
New Singles July 21, 2002
I Lay Down (the English version of Ali D´Oro) will indeed be released as the new single in Europe (probably not in Italy). The single will, besides the original song, also contain a remix version of the track. In Spain Music In Me will be released as the new Zucchero single. It is unclear when the singles will actually be in the stores, but it should be within a few weeks.
Free Concert July 12, 2002
Zucchero's (Italian) tour promoter Clear Channel has said to us that the concert Zucchero will give in Civitavecchia this summer (August 4) will be a free concerts and tickets are not required. The show will start around 21:00 but people will be standing in line probably the entire day. It is unclear right now if the soundcheck will happen and if fanclub members are allowed to get in and to meet Zucchero and the band. When we get more news in we'll post it here.
Ali D'Oro new single (?) July 11, 2002
According to the German Polydor site (www.polydor.de) Ali D'Oro (or I lay down) will be released as a new Zucchero single this August (at least in Germany), the tracklist will be the following:
01. I Lay Down (Bedroom Rockers rmx)
02. Ali d'oro (Bedroom Rockers rmx)
03. Ali d'oro
It is unclear if this single is just a promo or if it will also be released in cd-stores. Sento le campane, Zucchero's current "promo" in Italy was never released outside Italy. In Belgium Dindondio, Zucchero's third single taken from the Shake album, is getting some airplay but all is quiet on the Dutch front.
Funky Macchiarini July 11, 2002
Zucchero fansite Funkygallo (www.funkygallo.it) has published an online interview with Zucchero's friend, founder of the Sugar Day & Night and overall very very nice human being Marco Macchiarini.
Official fan club updated July 4, 2002
Zucchero´s official fanclub has been updated: the fan club section, only open to members, has appereantly taken over the United in Diversity section (which is now shut down) and offers fans the possibility to post stories and pictures, besides that the fanclub also offers extra news (like "tracklists"). To subscribe to the fanclub please visit Zucchero´s official website.
Shake World Tour July 4, 2002
A new date has been added to the Shake World Tour (7 september in Verona during the final night of this years Festivalbar series). In the coming months Zucchero is supposed to finish of the European leg of the tour and in (that´s what´s planned anyway) September Zucchero will start the American part of the tour. Last week Zucchero played a gig in Milan for the Free Tibet organisation. The concert Zucchero played last monday in Milan had the following "tracklist":
Sento le campane, Music in me, Porca L´Oca, Ali D´Oro, Dindondio, Rossa mela della sera, Baila (sexy thing), Ahum, Il Volo, Overdose (d´amore), Datemi una pompa, Il mare, Dune Mosse, Diamante, Cosi Celeste, Con le mani, Solo una sana..., Diavolo in me, Shake, Madre Dolcissima, X colpa di chi?, Tobia.
Giorgia releases compilation July 3, 2002
Italian singer Giorgia has released a compilation cd entitled Greatest Hits. Giorgia has worked several times with Zucchero starting in 2000 during the Sugar Day & Night festival (playing Un piccolo auito with Zucchero and R.E.S.P.E.C.T. solo). Zucchero wrote Giorgia's 2001 Sanremo song ("Di Sole e di azzuro") which is one of the songs on the Greatest Hits album.
